Common questions
Pricing, Straight Up
Do prices change once you start?
No. The price we quote is the price you pay, unless something genuinely unforeseen turns up, and even then we stop and talk it through before continuing.
Is the quote really free?
Yes, an on-site quote costs nothing, whether or not you go ahead with the work afterward. We'd rather you had the real number in hand before deciding.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
Not for quoting, no. You only pay for the work itself, once you've agreed to the written price we've given you.
How do I pay?
Payment is settled once the job's finished and you've seen it done, using whatever method suits you at the time. Nothing's taken upfront beyond what the written quote covers.
Common questions
Licensed, Insured and Done Properly
Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?
No, not beyond very minor exceptions like replacing a light globe. Electrical work in NSW is licensed work by law, and doing it yourself risks both your safety and the property's compliance record.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C, Master Electricians Australia membership, and we're fully insured. Look the licence number up on the NSW Fair Trading register yourself if you want to confirm it.
What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?
An RCD compares the current flowing out with the current coming back, and cuts the power the instant those two stop matching. The rules now want a safety switch on every circuit, and plenty of Annandale's unrenovated heritage homes still have none fitted.
What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?
It's the official record proving notifiable electrical work meets the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules, lodged with NSW Fair Trading once the job's tested. You get one automatically on any job that requires it, no extra charge.
Common questions
Response Times and Booking
How fast can you get here?
Often same or next day for a standard booking across Annandale. Genuine emergencies, sparks, burning smells, a dead board, get priority response any hour.
How soon can you fit me in?
It depends on the day and what's already booked, but often same or next day is typical for standard work. We'll tell you honestly on the call, not leave you guessing until we arrive.
Do you work weekends?
We're set up for genuine emergencies any time of day or week, and can often accommodate a weekend booking for standard work too. Ask what's available when you call.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Sparks, a burning smell, a dead board with no clear cause, or anything showing heat or scorching near a switch or point. If you're unsure whether it qualifies, call and describe it, and we'll tell you plainly what it means.
Common questions
Local to Annandale
What suburbs do you service?
Annandale in full, plus the surrounding Inner West patch: Leichhardt, Lilyfield, Stanmore, Rozelle, Camperdown and Balmain. If you're near any of those, we're likely already working streets close to you.
Can you handle new builds and renovations here?
Yes. Renovation work makes up a big part of what we do in Annandale's terraces and cottages, and any new-build wiring we install gets exactly the same AS/NZS 3000 standard applied.
Do you work on heritage or strata properties?
Regularly. Annandale's heritage conservation controls limit what can change on a protected facade, and the suburb's mix of converted terraces and strata units both come with their own coordination quirks we're used to.
Do you know Annandale's housing stock?
We work in it every week, from Victorian cottages to Federation terraces and the witches' hat villas along Johnston Street, so we generally know what's likely behind the wall before we ever open it up.
